LSI Logic introduced the ATSC-compliant HDTV DVD recorder system processors DoMiNo® 8633 (DMN-8633) and 8683 (DMN-8683) on December 5.
Based on the market-proven LSI DoMiNo architecture, the DMN-8633 and DMN-8683 are highly integrated single-chip processors with the ability to simultaneously encode and display HDTV content when recording content to a DVD. The DMN-8633 and DMN8683, which implement this functionality in a single chip, maintain maximum video quality while being the lowest cost, ATSC compatible HDTV DVD recorder solution.

In order to comply with FCC requirements, DVD recorder manufacturers need to add HDTV/ATSC tuner functionality to their existing DVD recorder system (consisting of a digital tuner, an 8VSB decoder, and an ATSC-compatible decoder processor). If you use a different solution instead of the DMN-8633/83, you will need separate processors, which will reduce video quality and increase cost and complexity. The DMN-8633/83 HDTV DVD recorder processor decodes both digital SD (HD) and HD (High Definition) ATSC signals and burns them to HDD or DVD while maximizing video quality.

The ATSC-compatible DMN-8633 and DMN-8683 are currently sampling to the relevant users, and the wholesale orders for the DMN-8633 and DMN-8683 are $20 and $25, respectively.
