The CPU mentioned above is so simple. In the present situation, it should be one of the top solutions in router products.

In terms of the function of the router itself, data operations are relatively simple operations, and the CPU requirements are not high. Usually, data processing (NAT network address translation) also has dedicated hardware acceleration processors (coprocessors) for processing. , so the CPU requirements are even lower. For the router, the core function is data forwarding. For example, if you give you a Gigabit fiber optic line, you can use a router with tens of blocks and you may not be able to reach 100M download speeds. This will give you a hardware-accelerated NAT function. For the router, it is easy to run to Gigabit. Since the CPU is basically not used, the CPU usage may not even reach 10%. Therefore, it is not reasonable to use the CPU alone to measure whether the router is strong.

The R8500 uses three 5G WIFI chips, the BCM4366, also from Broadcom, one of which is responsible for the 2.4G band and two of which are responsible for the 5G band. Because DATESHEET of BCM4366 basically does not flow out, so I painted the picture myself.

In fact, regardless of 802.11N or AC network, we need modulation and demodulation frequency in order to achieve the corresponding speed. This mode of modulation and demodulation we are currently talking about more is a string of digital +QAM, QAM full name is Quadrature Amplitude Modulation, That is, quadrature amplitude modulation is a modulation method that performs amplitude modulation on two orthogonal carriers, and has the advantages of being able to fully utilize bandwidth and strong anti-noise ability. There are many different modes of QAM, the most basic modulation mode of 11N is 64-QAM, and the basic modulation mode of 11AC is 256-QAM. Later, Broadcom adopted a new 1024-QAM modulation and demodulation method named NitroQAM. The single antenna supports 80Mhz frequency of 802.11AC. The wireless device using 1024-QAM modulation mode can achieve a link speed of 542Mbps. Using a BCM4366 network card, this type of 4X4 ​​MU- MIMO can use 1024-QAM modulation and demodulation under 802.11AC, which can achieve four times the effect, that is, maximum 2168Mbps.

NETGEAR's V1.0.2.64 is the latest R8500 firmware. In Basic-Wireless, we can see that 2.4G is preset to 1000Mbps, and 5G1 and 5G2 have preset 2165Mbps, which adds up to 5300Mbps link speed. , exactly corresponds to AC5300. If you want to test, the most critical is the 5165 speed test under the 2165Mbps, but to test, you first need to have a BCM4366 chip wireless network card, there is no choice but ASUS PCE-AC88, the only one.

After the check, the original 5G1 and 5G2 wireless SSIDs are combined into one SSID.

SMART CONNECT is actually an intelligent network selection. Although there is only one 5G SSID, the internal wireless device that is near to the router is preferentially allocated to 5G2 by default. I chose to wirelessly download more than 100GB of video files from the SSD of the HP MIRCOSERVER GEN8 to the tester. From beginning to end, the download bandwidth of the PCE-AC88 did not exceed 1Gbps, and the download speed was between 106~124MB/s. stable. Obviously, even if the WIFI chip is linked by 2.1Gbps bandwidth, and the bandwidth link between the WIFI chip and the CPU is PCIE2.0X1, it is limited to the 1Gbps bottleneck of the router's CPU to the switch, so we still don't see the wireless breakthrough. Gigabit, it's a pity that we can only expect the next-generation routing to use 2.5G network ports to solve this problem.

By the way, more than one machine downloads the files in GEN8 at the same time, forcing the highest bandwidth of the link aggregation. At this time we see 1.8Gbps, and for the R8500's own LAN1~2, it can achieve 1.8G link aggregation. The bandwidth is already very good. At the same time, it also proves that there is no problem in the bandwidth of our link aggregation system.

Therefore, 5G link bandwidth even if both routers and wireless network cards use the supporting equipment of 2.1Gbps BCM4366 chip, the link speed also reaches 2.1Gbps. At this time, the theoretical transmission speed should be around 270MB/S, but it is limited to the built-in R8500. The link bandwidth between the Gigabit switch and the CPU is 1 Gbps, so even if the speed between WIFI chip and CPU can reach 10 Gbps, the transmission speed cannot exceed the theoretical transmission speed of 1 Gbps Gigabit network at 125 MB/S.

Peanut shells will use their intranet DDNS servers and DNS servers. Our intranet IP is mapped to the public network. The domain name bound to the peanut shell can be resolved by the public network so that our NAS data can be accessed by the public network. This is the prototype of a private cloud.

To establish a private cloud through the Peanut shell's intranet mapping, first you need to have a peanut stick or a NAS that supports Peanut Shell Intranet mapping. Secondly, your router needs to support the intranet mapping and DDNS of the peanut shell. For the convenience of testing, I directly took a fermware F2 220 NAS with built-in peanut shell inner screen version SN to test.

Finally, find the dynamic DNS in the KOOLSHARE firmware, find the DDNS of KOOLSHARE customized peanut shell, fill in your registered peanut shell domain name, and connect the binding.

At this time, enter the peanut shell management page to find self-diagnosis. The test result indicates that the server has been successfully linked to the peanut shell. The domain name can be resolved by the public network.

At this time, find the browser, enter our domain name, and you can access your home NAS from anywhere.

When a friend asks you for a file, you can use the peanut shell's domain name to remotely log in to the NAS management page and share the required files with your friends as a link.

Because of the free version of Peanut Shell, I did a download speed test, which is about 120KB/s or so. The traffic is also limited to 1G traffic in a month. If you want faster speed and more traffic, then you have to Paid for it.
