This is an excellent science text. Even in the lighting industry, we dare to say that many people cannot clearly describe what the "control system" refers to. Where is it sacred?
Occasional lighting designer friends in the group to find "control system manufacturers", outdoor lighting solutions need to report a "well-known" control system. After a simple exchange, he decided to report to the owner that the "high-end brand" ABB went. Although he felt that he was a little wrong, he finally got tired and did not divide the newspaper. Control the point source with ABB! Still quite powerful. The author has a limited amount of knowledge, and I dare not arbitrarily comment on the technology, but I am deeply touched. Here, based on what I know, I will sort out the ideas, list the brands, and also look at the various protocols and main features of the lighting control system.
We classify the relevant controls along the lighting designer's application needs:
The first category: indoor electrical equipment control
1.1 Electrical Automation Control
Equipment manufacturers include Honeywell, Siemens, ABB, Schneider, and Zhejiang University Central Control (note that ABB has appeared here).
1.2 smart home
Equipment manufacturers include Honeywell, Crestron, Schneider, and Qisheng.
1.3 lighting dimming
Equipment manufacturers include Schneider, Morton, Bunge, Lutron, Hedong, Yonglin, Nuohe and so on.
Globally, the above three categories are based on the European KNX Association's EIB installation bus protocol as a total compatible interoperability protocol. Some equipment vendors are recognized by KNX and some are not.
Lighting designers are generally familiar with the 1.3 intelligent lighting category. The equipment of this category of equipment vendors contains different protocols and technologies: the TCP and IP protocols and the RS485 communication protocol are generally used as buses. As direct control lamps, there are: thyristor modulation. Constant voltage PWM modulation, 0-10V analog signal control, DMX512-A protocol signal control, DALI signal control, RS232 communication control (usually used to control projectors and curtains), and some proprietary protocols from manufacturers such as Tridonic. (Note that the SPI serial shift protocol and the extended DMX are not listed here).
The thyristor dimming used for illumination is generally chopped, with a single loop of 3 kW or more, a thermal source loop, and some thyristor dimming LED products.
1 traditional lighting control method
Some thyristor switches exist independently in the form of knob switches, are not incorporated into the control system, and are not counted as members of intelligent lighting. Only multi-channel silicon boxes can be connected to the lighting system. The silicon box is generally connected by the 0-10V and DMX512-A protocols and outputs a multi-channel AC dimming circuit.
2 incandescent lamp dimming method
Constant voltage PWM control is used for dimming multiple lamps in one loop. Generally, it is a common anode DC loop for controlling low voltage strips, downlights, etc. PWM is generally input by DMX512-A.
3 constant voltage PWM control
0-10V transmits independent analog signals, which is suitable for dimming one loop at the same time. It needs to be connected to AC, and now it is generally used as dimmable fluorescent lamps.
4 fluorescent light dimming method
Both the DMX512-A protocol and the DALI signal can independently control independent address-addressed luminaires. Since the luminaires have their own MCUs, the control is flexible, can be synchronized, and can be out of sync.
5LED light dimming method
Even if mobile communication devices such as mobile phones and iPads are added, it is only through GPRS or WIFI to TCP/IP protocol to access the intelligent control system, which is equivalent to adding a wireless control panel.

Common brands include Germany's MADRIX, domestically produced Xinbolite, Ogilvy & Mather, Yumingxin and other brands, as well as some lighting manufacturers' own defined control equipment, including Philips and OSRAM as non-standard protocols.

The advantage of the SPI serial shift communication and the expanded DMX protocol is that it can independently control a large number of LED control points. The SPI goes single and cannot be forked. Expanded DMX is generally not used for forks, and a few can also be used for split ends. The address of the luminaire has exceeded 512, reaching 1536 or even higher.
The third category: LED display control
The number of control points on the LED display is much larger than that of the exterior wall and landscape. The screen of P2.5 has reached 160,000 pixels in 1 square meter. The common controller brand is Arksos. The domestically produced Lingxin Rain, Zhongqing, Depuda, etc., these brands of software and hardware have their own supported graphics hardware, which belongs to the professional control of the display, which has exceeded the general intelligent lighting. The fourth category: stage lighting control
The thyristor dimming used in the stage has been upgraded from chopper type to sine wave. It is mainly used in the control of tungsten halogen bulbs in the United States, such as Squande, Guangdong Hedong, and Taiwan Yonglin.
The digital protocol used on the stage is DMX512-A. The common brands are GrandMA and Avolite. The latter has become an arcade level due to extensive piracy in mainland China. Martin, Zero 88, Fly pig and domestic hardware consoles also meet various performance requirements. . However, their operating interfaces are different, each occupying a small part of the lighting division user base.
9 stage lighting control
PC, software-based Visual, Sunlite, Chromatec and other brands are subdivided into small stage, bar, showroom, architectural landscape, etc. Some lighting manufacturers have also introduced control software and hardware, due to the small size of the hardware, software use Fast communication, PC software control system has gradually become the mainstream of the market.
With the extensive use of LED luminaires on the stage, TCP/IP-based Artnet and ACN have also been added to the stage application protocol to increase the control capacity.
The technologies and agreements mentioned above are all about the use of foreign technology. China only follows foreign standards. We went back to the problems encountered by lighting designers. "I don't know what brand of light source control should be reported to?" Thinking again, most of the global point light source, guardrail tube, and pixel strips are made in China. Line shift SPI controllers and luminaire manufacturers jointly develop an industry standard under the leadership of industry associations, which is likely to become a global standard. Even the expanded DMX can issue a new standard similar to the RDM (DMX512-A luminaire and console two-way communication) standard protocol.
With the new standard of Dongfeng, domestic brands can also become global famous brands, lighting designers will not know what to control the brand.
