The innovative smart meter SoC integrates an analog front end for measuring energy consumption and processing power, and a communication port for implementing applications and connectivity. The MSP430F6736 on-chip metering system includes three high-performance 24-bit sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters that support the implementation of single-phase tamper-resistant meters.
TI's powerful RF system-on-chip for 2.4-GHz IEEE 802.15.4, 6LoWPAN and ZigBee® Applications® is the industry's first and is the ideal choice for smart meters. It includes a powerful ARM Cortex M3-based MCU system with up to 32K of on-chip RAM and up to 512K of on-chip flash memory and reliable IEEE 802.15.4 RF functionality.
A cost-effective synchronous switching regulator delivers greater than 90% efficiency at light loads. It can precisely adjust various loads at different temperatures, while also providing several features, including adjustable slow start and cycle-by-cycle current limit.
The 2/1 three-channel digital isolator with noise filter takes up less space and consumes less power, making it an ideal accessory for general-purpose subsystems in smart meters. These low-power isolators provide 1 minute galvanic isolation up to 2500 Vrms per UL and 4242 Vpk per VDE and can handle speeds up to 50 Mbps.
