NEC released image data mining technology, and it takes only 10 seconds for a million people to lock a thief!

NEC (Japan Electric), Japan's largest information technology provider, recently said it has set up an artificial intelligence system that allows users to quickly search for CCTV shots and identify specific people from millions of faces.

The application, called NeoFace Image Data Mining, allows people to search for the whereabouts of wanted and lost children, all from video surveillance. According to company personnel, “It takes only 10 seconds to locate a person from 1 million people.” A video with 1 million faces can be equivalent to a 24-hour CCTV. NeoFace can also search from multiple video sources.

According to NEC, the system can also identify a specific person at a given time and place, and will not be affected if there are other people around the person. This feature will help police investigate crime scenes or help store owners identify thieves and more.

The system classifies various types of images in the video by similarity through a tree-like data management structure. The longer the time, the more lenses the system analyzes, the higher its accuracy. Coupled with the training of professionals, the system can recognize faces in real time, the company said.

Yuichi Nakamura is the General Manager of the NEC Green Platform Research Laboratory. He said the technology can help computers identify suspicious behavior.

“Some people will go to an area without permission. Such people are very suspicious. You can use our technology to discover these people. This technology can help the police to solve crimes faster or prevent them from crimes in advance.”

China has also taken action in this area.

Last week, Hikvision announced a partnership agreement with Movidius on CCTV AI software. Movidius develops computer vision application chips and has applied its own artificial intelligence research to unmanned vehicles, drones and VR devices.

Movidius' Myriad 2 vision processing chip uses a deep neural network and a series of algorithms to detect abnormalities such as suspicious backpacks, drivers who are distracted by mobile devices, and intruders trying to access secure areas by scanning the lens.

However, every advancement means that our privacy is further threatened. I hope that when the company is making great strides, it can also consider this for the masses.

Fast Connector

Fiber Fast Connector is used for field assembled optical fiber connector ,widely used in fiber to the home (FTTH) access optical networks,to assemble with drop cable quickly. Options are available for 900 micron allowing the installer to terminate and make connection in minutes at equipment and fiber patch panels. This connector system removes any requirement for epoxy, adhesive or costly curing ovens and polishing and fiber interface inspection. It's more convenient and faster
