Accessible AI technology will become a beneficiary
With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence across various fields, people with disabilities are increasingly becoming beneficiaries of technological progress. Recently, the first Science and Technology Accessibility Development Conference was held, where several AI-based accessibility technologies were introduced to the public. These innovations can now be accessed through the "Accessibility AI" portal on the "Multimedia AI Platform" mini-program. By opening these tools to the public, the initiative not only promotes inclusivity but also supports broader innovation in internet-related industries.
The project has launched three key AI technologies designed for accessibility scenarios:
First, Image-to-Speech technology uses a multi-layer deep neural network to analyze images and convert their content into logical, spoken language. This helps users with visual impairments understand what is depicted in images, making digital content more accessible.
Second, Custom Speech Synthesis leverages machine learning to generate personalized voice outputs from text. It allows for emotional modulation, enabling users to better engage with text-to-speech services and understand the context more naturally.
Third, OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology enables AI to identify and extract text from images. This is especially useful in daily life, such as reading signs, manuals, or other printed materials, and it also supports searching through large volumes of image-based text.

Li Zhijun, Vice Chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and Honorary Chairman of the China Association of the Blind, emphasized that technological development is accelerating rapidly, and the demand for accessible internet services among people with disabilities is growing exponentially. He called on enterprises to prioritize barrier-free design and use technology to reduce the challenges faced by disabled individuals.
He also sent a message to the conference, hoping it would become a platform where enterprise needs align with user needs, fostering mutual growth and innovation in the field of accessibility.
At the event, the first professional book on information accessibility in China was officially released: *“Information Accessibility: Another Perspective to Enhance User Experience.â€* This publication fills a critical gap in the field and promotes the idea that everyone should have equal access to information through the internet.
Li Qingzhong, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Association of the Blind, introduced the book, highlighting that China has over 17 million visually impaired individuals and more than 200 million elderly people. As modern information technology reshapes daily life, it presents both challenges and opportunities for vulnerable groups. Ensuring effective information accessibility is essential to prevent social exclusion and improve quality of life. The book aims to raise awareness and promote best practices in accessibility, playing a crucial role in enhancing service levels and supporting an inclusive society.
