French lighting master Roger: Lighting does not compete

Together we listen to French lighting master Roger Naborni on lighting planning and urban lighting design.

Lighting planning: light up the soul of the city

In the late 1980s, France created a new discipline called Urban Lighting Planning, which provided advice for the politicians to beautify the city, plan the night landscape in detail, and improve the quality of urban lighting. Roger, whose career is almost in sync with this trend, has shown that many cities in Europe have discovered new nighttime scales in the past decade and have created carnivals of urban lighting, such as the annual Lyon Light Festival. In the comparison map of the two European night scenes shown in the lectures, it can be seen that in just over a decade, the entire night light skyline in Europe has developed from sporadic flashes to intercontinental contours composed of rolling light.

In China, people's expectations for the happiness of lighting are gradually increasing. Wang Xiaoan, chief architect of the Modern Design Group East China Institute, believes that today's urban lighting is no longer for pure lighting, but should give people emotional shock: when we were young, floodlighting was not popular, National Day was bright. The light is a big deal. Now, our city is lit up every day, and how the lighting design can bring real happiness, which is getting harder and harder.

Roger admits that the light should be the soul of a city, not just the streets and the night sky. As a designer invited by Zhongtai Lighting to join the Hangzhou-Hangzhou Grand Canal's Hangzhou night vision planning and design team, Roger admitted that he was not familiar with China before this. However, he felt that the lights of the Chinese metropolis were too bright and bright. The types of lighting colors in Chinese cities are so many that he is surprised. The choice of colors is so horrible. In his opinion, the final lighting planning effect that each city needs to achieve should be the same as the cultural background of the city. The lighting design of the Hangzhou section of the canal, the Chinese designers told me a lot about Hangzhou, we feel that the city is elegant and elegant, and the final design is to use a low-key blue-green haze instead of Bright Las Vegas-style lighting.

Night view of the waters: highlighting the traits on the environment

In the lecture, Roger presented some cases in the field of water lighting. The Rion Antirion Bridge in Athens connects the Peloponnese to the mainland, and the peninsula is drifting outward by 8 mm each year for geological formations. In the night view of the bridge, the thin gold lines gracefully passed through the four towering blue spires, symbolizing the needle and thread. In the lighting design for the Garonne River in downtown Toulouse, France, the designer built a concrete structure along the existing causeway, which installed a 247-meter-long light track. The color of the light path changes with the tide of the current, and it appears clear when the flow rate is fast in summer, but it is blurred when the flow rate is slow in winter.

However, compared with the project of the Hangzhou Canal, Roger admits that the scale of China's lighting construction is much larger than that of Europe. Ten kilometers is a big number, and we have deliberately made a test section to ensure that the various design concepts can be completely realized. Manager Tao of the marketing department of Zhongtai Lighting explained. In the view of the domestic experts attending the meeting, this nighttime lighting map of the ink and blue has also brought new ideas. The domestic and foreign designers have very different attitudes toward the city, which is related to the whole impetuous attitude of the domestic construction industry. . Wu Xiaoqi said that the blue light frame, especially on the houses around the canal, not only covers the buildings that are not so beautiful after the light, but also the light angle of the blue light frame is small and does not disturb the people.

Architectural lighting: competition is not the purpose

In Roger's eyes, the Las Vegas lighting design that makes many people stunning and emulating is actually a case of unsuccessful architectural lighting design. You can imagine that in the night, when every building in the city is glazed Brighten, this will be a city without how much life.

As a crucial part of lighting planning, the status quo of domestic urban architectural lighting has also worried many architects present. Wu Xiaoqi, deputy dean of the School of Architecture and Art at the China Academy of Art, said that architecture requires the same personality as people, and that every building in China is now the protagonist, using various colors of light and various forms of jumping to compete. Did not understand the original intention of the building.

Although he also hopes to highlight the texture of the building, Wang Xiaoan believes that the current lighting is only satisfied that it is not vital to brighten the building. For more and more glass curtain wall buildings in the city, the inner light transmission may be a better choice. . Wang Xiaoan believes that the result of only focusing on the lighting of individual buildings is that the overall effect is very poor. In this sense, the simple warm white traditional lighting has a strong vitality, not the more fancy.

Nowadays, the whole trend of lighting and lighting has long been not considering how to decorate the city. We often say that the lighting designer is playing games with the shadows. In the process of designing the lighting, if there is no shadow, there is no light. . Roger said. On the other hand, lighting design in Europe is a big deal, Roger said, because this is a public area design, we will be very cautious in the choice of color and brightness, once the complaints from residents, the project is likely to be aborted. In China, the interaction between this design and the public is far from universal. In addition, the lighting is equally effective for the expansion of the city's nighttime activities. In Europe, some historical buildings or cultural venues are decorated with lights at night, and this is also to provide a cultural tour for the citizens at night, while at home, night lights The function is relatively simple.
