NXP has sold 250 million fluorescent lamp driver chips


NXP Semiconductors has announced that it has sold 250 million fluorescent lamp driver chips, marking another milestone in NXP's environmental technology. Fluorescent lamps are extremely energy efficient solutions that save 80% energy compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. Through these fluorescent lamps, NXP has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 500 million kilograms per year compared to traditional lighting solutions.

Electricity used in homes, businesses, offices, signs, public spaces, and street lights accounts for about 20% of global electricity consumption. Such high consumption is no wonder that consumers, businesses and governments around the world are looking for ways to replace traditional lighting. According to NXP's calculations, new energy-efficiency technologies, such as energy-saving lamps (CFL), high-pressure gas discharge lamps (HID), and tubular fluorescent lamps (HF TL), can save about 80% in lighting costs. These energy-saving fluorescent lamps have become more and more familiar and replace incandescent lamps, which indicates that the technology will continue to be popularized and developed.

Stephane Curral, NXP's semiconductor power lighting production line manager, believes that lighting is a critical area of ​​focus for the semiconductor industry because of its ability to make a significant impact on the world's energy conditions.
