OLED industry speeds up domestic and foreign companies to seize the opportunities

Over the years, LED has gone a long way in the maturity of technology. Until recently, in addition to the daily lighting, LED still has many problems to be solved as a light source, and the LED industry cannot be reassured. The more advanced OLED behind it is catching up quickly, and it is possible to knock the LEDs to the ground at any time. Although LED has been widely used as an energy-saving light source and a semi-permanent cold light source, its market scale has expanded year by year and its growth rate is extremely fast. But there are still so many problems.

International enterprise OLED speeds up, LED crisis

Not long ago, Germany's Novaled AG published a market speculation on OLEDs, indicating that the luminous efficiency of OLEDs for lighting has reached 50 lumens/W, which is more than twice that of traditional incandescent lamps. It also indicates that it is possible to achieve 100 lumens/W in two years. Target, this will exceed the current LED70~80 lumens/W standard.

At the same time, due to the high profit brought by low-cost factors such as OLED surface illumination and ultra-thin, it is more suitable for LED as the light source choice for display devices. This has led many LCD panel manufacturers to start the research and development of OLED technology. If the LED does not solve the technical difficulties within two to three years, it will be difficult to overcome the OLED products that will come up later. I am afraid that the LED will have no chance of winning.

It is understood that the company's development of OLED technology and organic electronics technology applications in four areas: display, lighting, solar cells, TFT. Among them, the company is most looking forward to the field of lighting. Novaled believes that this is a revolution in lighting and is moving forward step by step. At the same time, he also pointed out that the world's famous light bulb manufacturers are all aiming at general lighting development. However, the company believes that "it should first use the characteristics of OLED surface light to introduce novel lighting products, and then popularize it for general lighting purposes." In particular, the "transparent illumination" of the window glass, and the illumination of the tile-shaped OLED panel of about 10 cm square on the wall and ceiling are full of expectations. "The focus of OLED lighting is on energy efficiency due to high luminous efficiency." In addition, Japanese and American automakers have also increased their focus on OLED lighting applications, and are researching applications ranging from interiors and dashboards to various luminaires.

Recently, Osram Opto Semiconductors announced that it has refreshed the laboratory records of hot white organic light-emitting diodes after just two years of research and development. Organic light-emitting diode lighting (ie OLED lighting) achieves a luminous efficacy of 46 lumens per watt, brightness of up to 1,000 cd/m2 and a lifetime of more than 5,000 hours, enabling the first simultaneous enhancement of two key features of OLED. In the past, light efficiency and longevity have always been the same: light efficiency progress, life expectancy is shortened; vice versa.

Dr. Karsten Heuser, head of OLED lighting technology at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, is very satisfied with the results achieved in the mid-term of research and development. He said: "The efficacy of the new product reaches 46 lumens / watt (the CIE measured on the integrating sphere is 0.46/0.42). With a service life of more than 5,000 hours, our development team has created a real milestone in the history of thermal white OLED development. With the improvement of light efficiency and longevity, OLED planar light sources are getting closer to the level of traditional lighting solutions, and will be widely used. Applications."

The prototype of a product of about 100 square meters has a color rendering index (CRI) of 80. It is expected that by March 2009, the development project will see a major breakthrough. The energy-saving OLED planar light module (demo version) consisting of multiple illuminating panels will achieve a total luminous flux of up to 500 lumens, while the power consumption does not exceed 10 watts.

Seizing the first domestic enterprises are not willing to lag behind

According to reports, the large-scale production line of Vision's organic light-emitting display (OLED), founded by Tsinghua University, will be officially put into operation in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province in the second half of 2008. This is the first time that China has relied on independent technology for mass production in the display industry, which indicates that China's new flat panel display technology has realized a transition from technology to industry.

Visionox's OLED technology comes from Tsinghua University. The entire production line is completely designed by itself. At present, the production base has been basically completed, and the production line equipment has been purchased and will be moved in successively. With a total construction area of 30,000 square meters, the factory has an advanced clean workshop of tens of thousands of square meters, with an annual output of more than 10 million small-sized OLED display devices. OLED displays can be widely used in products such as communications, instrumentation, industrial control, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, aerospace, medical instrumentation and other industries.

The market is fiercely competitive and the prospects are bright.

According to relevant data, the global LED application market will increase from US$12.5 billion in 2004 to US$50 billion in 2008. Currently, the world is embarking on a battle to seize the commanding heights of the LED market. Li Xuliang, the first chairman of the Guangdong LED Industry Alliance and chairman of Qinshang Optoelectronics, believes that under such fierce competition, China's LED industry urgently needs to improve its independent innovation capability, fully integrate and utilize existing resources, and strengthen industry support and joint research. And through learning and warning, we will reach the international leading level as soon as possible.

In recent years, China's LED industry has a certain technology and industrial base, initially forming a relatively complete industrial chain, the entire industry stepping fast growth stage of development, the market scale and vision of LED lighting is very broad, growing at a rate of 50% per year. . However, compared with foreign companies, the international competitiveness of China's semiconductor lighting industry is still far from enough. The shortcomings are obvious: First, the overall distribution is scattered, the cluster effect is not obvious; Second, the industry scale is small, lacking leading enterprises; The level of technology is not high, and there is a big gap with foreign countries.

At present, developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan attach great importance to the research and development of LED. Industry giants such as General Electric, Philips, and Osram have also partnered with semiconductor companies to set up semiconductor lighting companies to accelerate the global LED market. At the same time, under the trend of increasing LED production capacity of local Chinese companies, foreign investors have also increased their investment in China. The type of investment and construction of the factory has also shifted from the early packaging factory to the higher-tech chip. However, at this stage, in the production of epitaxial wafers, European, American, and Japanese and Chinese Taiwanese manufacturers have basically not invested in mainland China. Except for Guangzhou Puguang, which is a Hong Kong-funded enterprise, the rest are basically local enterprises. According to CCID Consulting's speculation, in the next few years, more foreign-funded enterprises will enter China to set up factories, and local enterprises will further increase their production capacity. By then, China will become after Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Another LED industry base.

According to a new research report by the famous market research company ABIResearch, the global LED market may include two parts by 2010: one is a simple and cheap ordinary LED, usually a large-volume procurement market; the other is high-end, high-tech Innovation represents the market. It can be seen that the development trend of China's LED lighting industry is bright.
