Ziguang Zhanrui expects to launch the first commercial 5G mobile phone platform in 2019

With the completion of the 3GPP 5G Phase 1 standard, the global stage for 5G pre-commercial deployment has officially opened. At the 2018 MWC, one of the most significant events in the global communications industry, leading telecom companies showcased their 5G strategies and business plans, highlighting the growing momentum behind next-generation wireless technology. As the world's third-largest independent mobile phone chipmaker, Ziguang Zhanrui has benefited from the rising demand in the domestic market. By expanding overseas, its chips have been adopted by major global brands such as Samsung, Lenovo, and Micromax, establishing a strong presence in international markets. At this year’s MWC, Ziguang Zhanrui announced a strategic partnership with Intel to drive 5G innovation globally. This collaboration positions Ziguang Zhanrui as the first Chinese supplier of 5G mobile phone chips for commercial use next year, offering a significant opportunity to compete in the high-end smartphone chip market. In addition, Ziguang Zhanrui joined China Mobile’s “5G Terminal Pioneer Program,” aiming to accelerate the development and launch of the first 5G terminals. The company will work closely with China Mobile on technical research, application scenarios, product innovation, and demonstration projects, striving to build a mature 5G ecosystem through cooperation and integration. Currently, Ziguang Zhanrui is an essential player in the 5G landscape and an active participant in shaping 5G standards. With a dedicated R&D team of hundreds of professionals, the company is investing heavily in 5G research and development. It aims to become a leading global brand in 5G chips, with plans to launch its first commercial 5G mobile phone platform by the second half of 2019. Wu Huixiong, Senior Vice President of Ziguang Zhanrui Market, emphasized that the company will focus on two key areas: 5G and IoT. He stated that 5G represents a major strategic opportunity, and the company is determined to increase its market share in China’s 5G market and become a key player in the country’s 5G infrastructure. Regarding the collaboration with Intel, Wu highlighted three key characteristics: high-end positioning, global market reach, and long-term commitment. He noted that the ultimate goal of Ziguang Zhanrui is to be the top mobile chip supplier, leveraging Intel’s expertise in the 5G space while developing cost-effective solutions for the low-end market. When asked why they chose Intel, Wu explained that the fast-evolving market requires reliable, long-term partners. He stressed that Ziguang Zhanrui is committed to long-term growth and has the resources and determination to succeed in the competitive chip industry. Wu also expressed confidence in the company’s future, noting that despite the challenges of high investment, long development cycles, and intense competition, Ziguang Zhanrui has grown significantly since the 4G era. With strong group support and industry collaboration, the company now has a much stronger foundation than before. He added that while competition is fierce, Ziguang Zhanrui has built a solid position, with eight independent product lines each focused on excellence and benchmarking against industry leaders. In the mobile chip industry, product competitiveness remains the core factor. Meeting customer demands in terms of performance, quality, and continuous innovation is crucial. As a Chinese chipmaker, Ziguang Zhanrui remains focused on the domestic market, believing that as Chinese smartphone manufacturers grow, so will their market opportunities. “We are a Chinese company, and as our local manufacturers thrive, our market will expand accordingly,” Wu concluded, expressing optimism about the future of Ziguang Zhanrui in the evolving 5G landscape.
