Shanghai Fushun Microelectronics Co., Ltd. has released the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC decoding ASIC IP core "FH8600" supporting standard definition (SD). It can be applied to DVB-T, DVB-S and IP set-top boxes through SoC chip integration. , digital media devices such as portable media players and mobile TV. The FH8600 supports H.264 Main Profile and Level 3, adopts a 0.18μm process, and has a logic scale of 300,000 gates. It can perform real-time decoding of 30 frames per second for a video stream with a resolution of 720x480 when operating at a 54MHz clock frequency. Sample FH8600 ASICs will be available at the end of the second quarter of 2005.A video stream conforming to the H.264 Main Profile specification can provide programs close to DVD picture quality at a bandwidth of 1 Mbps, and the compression efficiency is much higher than those of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.
