As an equipment maintenance technician, working with PLCs is a common task, especially when it comes to modifying programs. Today, I want to share a practical tip that can significantly improve your efficiency. In the past, I used to stop the device before making any changes, which often increased downtime and made troubleshooting less effective. This approach wasn’t ideal for demonstrating your skills or solving problems quickly.
Now, there's a better way. You can connect your computer directly to the PLC without stopping the machine. This allows you to monitor and modify the program in real-time while the system is still running. Here’s how it works:
After connecting, click on “Monitor†to establish communication between your computer and the PLC. The PLC will continue to operate, and you can now identify the part of the program you need to modify.
Next, go to “Program,†then select “Online Editing,†and finally click “Start.†At this point, the screen should look like this, and you can begin editing or adding new steps to the program.
Once you’ve made your changes, go back to “Program,†select “Online Editing,†and click “Send Change.†This will update the PLC without interrupting the operation of the machine.
This method not only saves time but also shows your technical expertise in a more professional way. It allows you to perform maintenance without shutting down the equipment, which is crucial in industrial environments where downtime is costly.
I hope this guide helps you improve your workflow and enhance your skills. Feel free to experiment and apply these techniques in real-world scenarios. I’m always looking forward to learning from others and sharing more useful tips in the future!
