Socionext Inc. ("Soxi Technology" or "Company"), a leading innovator in advanced visual imaging SoC application technology, has unveiled the world's smallest and lightest 8K/4K media player, the "S8," featuring an integrated 8K HEVC decoder chip. This groundbreaking device is set to launch in March 2018, targeting advertisers and users of LED live large screens and digital signage. With the S8 at its core, Soxi Technology aims to develop a comprehensive suite of solutions for 8K image encoding, transmission, decoding, and display, paving the way for the widespread adoption of ultra-high-definition content.
As a global leader in 8K/60P HEVC decoding and demodulator LSIs compliant with the ISDB-S3 digital broadcasting standard, Soxi Technology has been at the forefront of 4K/8K satellite broadcasting reception since 2018. With the commercial rollout of 5G expected in 2020, the demand for high-resolution video content is anticipated to surge dramatically. In response, Soxi Technology has developed the S8 media player, designed to fully leverage the potential of 8K ultra-high-definition video.
Equipped with the proprietary demodulator LSI "SC1400A," the S8 can decode 8K HEVC video in real time, enabling live broadcasts of sports events and concerts. It also supports decoding of H.264/MPEG-4 compressed 4K content and offers super-resolution processing to upscale 4K images to 8K quality.
To complement the S8, Soxi Technology has built an 8K HEVC real-time encoding system using eight "MB86M31" LSIs. Combined with the S8, this system provides end-to-end image processing for 8K encoding, transmission, decoding, and display, offering a complete solution for 8K content delivery.
