The ecosystem is more complete, the ARM server camp is on the rise

The IPM server camp is growing. As the core of the mobile device processor, ARM has entered the server market and has actively rallied and integrated upstream and downstream supply chain operators to expand the ARM architecture in the server market.

In fact, in early February of this year, Anymou International launched a new server base system architecture (SBSA) specification for the 64-bit processor of the ARMv8-A architecture (Figure 1). The ARM architecture server software and hardware development has no standard to follow, thus expanding the market share of the ARM architecture server and adding new momentum to the development of the ARM architecture server.

ARM technology chief Mike Muller said that the ecosystem of the ARM architecture server (Ecosystem) is rapidly forming, and the release of the basic system architecture standard will be an important milestone at this time; the architecture standard can simplify the tedious process of developers designing the basic system, enabling development Business is more focused on the back-end innovative design, accelerating product development and time-to-market.

Muller further pointed out that in addition to processor manufacturers, ARM will continue to work with operating system operators, firmware and software developers to promote this standard architecture, and make the ARM architecture server ecosystem more complete.

According to Anmou International, the advent of the SBSA standard will not only make the development process easier, but also accelerate the deployment of ARM architecture servers from chips and software to end products. In other words, SBSA can also enable operating system operators (OperaTIng System Vendor, OSV) and the Independent Software Vendor (ISV) release relevant solutions in the ARM architecture server community in a faster and easier way.

It is understood that Canonical, Citrix, Linaro, Microsoft, Red Hat, SUSE, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), such as Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP), have planned to adopt this architecture standard. Release relevant solutions to further strengthen the momentum of the ARM camp.

In fact, in early 2014, processor giant Supermicro Semiconductor (AMD) released the company's first ARM architecture 64-bit server processor, adding a new force to the ARM camp to attack the low-end server market; Qualcomm, Processors such as Samsung are also ambitious to join the ARM server chip battle. On the other hand, OEMs such as Dell and Hewlett-Packard, as well as some original design manufacturers (OEMs), are also expected to launch ARM architecture server products this year. It is obvious that the ARM server ecosystem is rapidly expanding, and it also represents ARM and x86 processors. Competition in the low-end server market will become increasingly fierce.

Figure 2 MIC industry analyst Guo Jiarong said that ARM's plan to enter the server market has been aided by the supply chain, which is expected to boost ARM's development momentum in the server market.

Guo Jiarong (Figure 2), an analyst at the MIC industry, said that if the biggest dilemma in the development of the ARM architecture is the doubts about the operational effectiveness of the outside world, this problem is now half-solvable. She explained that in terms of the same processing power, it is generally expected that four ARM architecture processors will be able to compete with an x86 architecture processor. However, after a long period of innovation, the ARM architecture platform has a lot of performance. Growing forward, even as much as x86 architecture processors, so the most important task for ARM now is how to expand the ecosystem of its server market.

Guo Jiarong pointed out that since the Internet service providers Facebook and Google have been studying the application of ARM architecture servers in the cloud data center, and have been in contact with hardware manufacturers outside Intel, the ARM architecture is in the server market. It has become more and more eye-catching and has attracted many chip vendors, OEMs and ODMs.
