(London Stock Exchange: WLF.L) announced today that the company has introduced a new series of high-performance 24-bit stereo analog-to-digital converters for high performance. Recordable media devices such as recordable DVD players, personal video recorders, A/V amplifiers, and high-end sound cards and studio audio processing equipment.
The WM8780/1/5/6 maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio by up to 111dB with advanced mixed-signal technology such as Wolfson's multi-bit sigma delta design and proprietary cascaded topology. This results in a clear, accurate sound in a compact and inexpensive surface mount package. By choosing between single-ended inputs or differential analog inputs, designers can achieve the best balance between audio performance, system cost, and design effort. Both input methods can be implemented with hardware and software controllable variables.
Both the WM8780 and WM8781 feature a single-ended input with a signal-to-noise ratio of 107dB and a total harmonic distortion of -98dB. The differential input design allows the WM8785 and WM8786 to achieve a signal-to-noise ratio of 111dB and a total harmonic distortion of -102dB.
24-bit high resolution is achieved at sampling frequencies from 8 kHz to 192 kHz, digital output audio character lengths can be configured between 16 and 32 bits, and pulse code modulation (PCM) outputs are available. Wolfson's proprietary low-value modulator minimizes jitter effects, and an optional high-pass filter can be used to eliminate residual DC offset. This family of products supports a TDM bus, giving designers greater flexibility in building advanced audio processing equipment, including complex multi-channel studios or surround sound systems.
The WM8780 is now available in a low pin count 16-pin SOIC package to optimize board space while minimizing the number of interconnects. The WM8781, WM8785 and WM8786 are now available in a small 20-pin SSOP package. |
