The Optogan Group of Companies, a Russian company's LED production company, recently established a new production base in St. Petersburg, Russia, with a total financing of 3.35 billion (80 million euros).
The base, created by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Ivanov, is currently the largest factory for LED parts and modules in Eastern Europe and the CIS region.
The factory will have 800 employees, covering an area of ​​about 15,000 square meters, of which 5,000 square meters is a clean room environment. The factory's first production line has an annual output of 360 million LEDs and will continue to grow in the future.
This is the most recent and largest example of the Russian government's support for the LED market. OptoGan said that the establishment of this high-tech production base is a big step in the modernization and globalization of the Russian economy.
The Optogan Group is engaged in the production of LED chips, packaging transmitters, and LED desk lamps and lighting. The company was founded in 2004 by three Russian scientists in Helsinki, Finland. Since 2005, the company has carried out research and development of chips and chip production in Dortmund and Landshut, Germany. At the end of 2008, OptoGan was acquired by its major shareholder Onexim Group (private investment fund). The remaining two shareholders are Rusnano (National Investment Fund) and the regional Republican Investment Company (RIC).
