What exactly is the ID VIZZION concept car?
As a high-end model in the ID family, the VIZZION not only stands out visually but also showcases Volkswagen's direction in electric vehicle development. It is equipped with two intelligent motors and an 111 kWh lithium battery, offering a maximum range of 665 km. The car eliminates the steering wheel and controls, replacing them with the “digital driver†concept. Using laser scanners, ultrasonic sensors, radar, and cameras, it can autonomously navigate, steer, and drive.

What is the ID family?
The ID family is a new electric vehicle series launched by Volkswagen, reflecting the trends of electrification, automation, and intelligence. Currently, it includes the ID Concept, ID Crozz SUV, and ID Buzz. With the addition of the VIZZION, the family is expanding further.
Other brands are also exploring the future of mobility. Audi introduced the Aicon in 2017, while Mercedes-Benz released the Vision EQ Fortwo. BMW has been active in autonomous driving, showcasing concepts like the NEXT100 and Vision Next 100.
What sets these apart?
While all feature fully autonomous driving without a steering wheel, they each have unique characteristics. For example, the Audi Aicon offers a longer range of up to 800 km, while the smart Vision EQ Fortwo is more user-friendly, featuring transparent or opaque doors and additional space. BMW has taken a lead in applying autonomous driving to production cars, with models like the i8 and 5 Series Li already supporting L2-level autonomy.
When will these concept cars be mass-produced?
Volkswagen plans to launch over 20 new energy vehicles by 2020 and invest €6 billion in R&D for new energy and battery technology. By 2023, at least 10 ID models will be available in China. Meanwhile, the smart Vision EQ Fortwo is expected to hit the market in 2030, and BMW’s next 7 Series may include L3-level autonomy by 2019.
