This is the latest move by Intel, the world's largest chip maker, to advance into the smart car field. On Tuesday, Intel announced that by the end of 2017, about 40 BMW cars with built-in Intel Go will be on the road.
Also on Tuesday, Intel announced earlier that it will acquire a 15% stake in HERE, the German electronic map company, which will work with HERE to develop technologies for real-time traffic and road conditions that ensure safe driving in highly automated driving modes.
Intel said that the company's processor is very suitable for the car, because the development of personal computers and data center software are also applied to similar chips. There are 30 models on the road that carry Intel chips, and hundreds of automated test cars use Intel chips.
However, media commentary believes that Intel may face the same fierce competition in the autonomous vehicle market as the smart phone and mobile phone market. ARM is already a leader in the field of mobile chips.
