To improve driver safety and reduce car damage, many of the latest models from leading automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) offer the option of using surround technology. The 360-degree surround view monitor processes video from four on-board cameras and then combines the four images into a eagle-eye view, as if the camera was positioned directly above the car. The monitor helps the driver visually confirm the position of the car relative to the surrounding people and objects for easy maneuvering. The TW9966 decoder and encoder provide consumers with outstanding, detailed, high-quality video that enhances their ability to observe people and objects around the car.
Thanks to Intersil's precision analog-to-digital converter (ADC) technology and a patented comb filter integrated into the chip, the TW9966 delivers best-in-class video quality. The TW9966 integrates four high quality analog video decoders with a 10-bit ADC to support four analog camera inputs, a flexible digital output interface (for sending images to a processor that combines four images into a surround view) and An analog video encoder (for outputting composite video as an analog composite signal to the display) forms a single-chip solution. Each channel input of the TW9966 also includes an analog anti-aliasing filter to further reduce component count. This high level of integration helps simplify system design and minimize solution footprint, helping to save valuable board space.
The performance, quality and flexibility of Intersil's new TW9966 video decoder and encoder enable automotive design engineers to select multiple system architectures for multi-channel video delivery to back-end processors or FPGAs to optimize board design and reduce cost. The TW9966 provides a digital output interface to support up to three different configurations: standard ITU-R BT.656 format output via four 27MHz 8-bit buses; time division multiplexed byte interleaved output for dual channel video over two 54MHz 8-bit buses Or transmit a time division multiplexed byte interleaved output of four channels of video over a 108 MHz 8-bit bus. The TW9966 also includes a phase-locked loop (PLL) for generating 54MHz or 108MHz outputs, while requiring only a lower cost 27MHz oscillator as a reference.
