Marvell Releases World's First Quad-Core ARM Processor

Marvell Releases World's First Quad-Core ARM Processor Marvell today announced the new ARM architecture-based ARMADA XP embedded processor, becoming the world’s first quad-core ARM CPU that will be used primarily for enterprise applications.

Like many ARM processors, ARMADA XP is still a highly integrated SoC system-on-chip. Its computing core includes four cores, with a frequency of up to 1.6GHz and 2MB of L2 cache, with a computing performance of 16600DMIPS and a power consumption of less than 10W. The processor provides 64bit DDR2/DDR3/DDR3L memory interface, up to 800MHz and supports ECC, four PCI-E 2.0 channels, four Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, up to 16 Marvell SERDES multifunction channels can be defined as PCI-E, SATA, SGMII, QSGMII, etc. In addition, multiple USB ports can be provided.

ARMADA XP processor will be mainly used in cloud computing and other enterprise applications, such as high-performance network devices, web servers, and home NAS, media servers. Marvell said that ARMADA XP will be demonstrated at this week's ARM technology conference and has begun to provide samples to customers.
